Person shot at Tanner Gun Show

http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news...55/detail.html

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- One person was shot Saturday afternoon at the Denver Merchandise Mart during a gun show.

The Adams County Sheriff Office confirmed one man was shot at the Tanner Gun Show, which was being held at the Denver Merchandise Mart at Interstate 25 and 58th Avenue. The man was taken to Denver Health Medical Center in unknown condition.

Witnesses tell 7 News that the man was unconscious after being shot.

Witnesses have offered up varying stories, from a gun being dropped and going off, to a vendor accidentally shooting an accident.

Authorities said they are still investigating witnesses and trying to determine what actually occurred. However a person familiar with the investigation did say that a person attending the gun show was the person who pulled the trigger.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Candi Baker said it is illegal to have a loaded gun at a gun show.

Only one thing to do, ban guns and gun shows!
Next, ban automobiles
On average in 2008, between 118 and 119 people were killed on the roadways of the U.S. each day!

So I would imagine the gun seller is the one liable? For myself when I'm looking at guns at a store or show, I check the chamber very carefully, as does the employee. Even then I do not have it pointed at a person or sweep at someone.

I've seen some crazy shit at gun shows. I saw a guy with a pump shotgun at the last show I went to, he was bringing it into trade and they check you at the front door. Guy asks him if it's loaded, he says and I quote "How stupid do you think I am?", the front door guy says "show me the chamber, the guy pumps it and a round comes flying out LOL

You forgot to mention knives. You must also ban knives because a person might get cut with one.

There, that makes more (Orwellian) sense. If gun shows were banned, then where would one buy hot-n-spicy beef-jerky at?

At one show I saw a guy making his way along the tables with a kid in tow. His little boy was reaching up and trying the triggers of each gun he could reach on the tables as they passed. I didn't hear any loud noises, so I guess he didn't get his wish....

Most of the shows that I know of require all guns inside to have a nylon wire tie put on to disable the action.

I've been to the Tanner shows in Denver many times, though not this one. The security there is as tight as the TSA at the airport (though no scanners/xray). There are dozens of (armed) private security guards on patrol inside the show, and I;ve been told a ot of plain-clothes security, too.. A lot of Denver police, too.

Yes, they require nylon ties on the firing mechanisms.

Several years ago I was attending a gun show in Bristol, TN when they had a firearm discharge inside the building. Luckily no one was hurt as the bullet went down into the floor but you talk about a crowd getting quiet! A few minutes later they made an announcement over the PA that the person responsible was packing up his stuff and leaving ASAP and would never be back to a show there. My wife was with me that day and naturally was a little nervous about attending gun shows for a while after that.

LOL I have the answer to this one. Almost all shows have the jerky hut guy. He had 3 booths at the miami boat show. You'll just start having to attend a larger variety of shows. Any show that has dude's attending will have the jerky hut.

Ok, I've WORKED that show for more than five years. I stopped a few years back and then last year, set up a couple of tables again when things were hot.

1) NO UNDERCOVER COPS - at least not local, county or state - occasional BATF? Probably. Though the ATF have a table set up at about every other show.

2) Nylon ties are for all firearms, but MOST vendors have snips and ties to cut and then replace the cut tie once the firearm has been fondled by a potential customer.

3) Private security? I LIKE the guys who work security there. But MOST of them are older than I am and couldn't even catch their breath, much less anyone else. And PLEASE don't make it sound like there is some kind of armed force keeping a watchful eye out of everything that goes on there. NOTHING could be further from the truth.

I quit working this show again because of prices. I was shocked at what people were willing to pay for whatever.

AND I've seen first hand the results of some people putting rounds in unloaded guns while the vendor isn't looking - it is almost ALWAYS attributed to be funded/goaded on by PETA to further the opportunity for an AD giving them a reason to shut down the show because it's so dangerous.

I've been at two different show in Cali where a firearm on the table went off when being handled by a potential customer.

I said "plain-clothes security", not undercover law enforcement. But in fact a friend of mine is a Denver Sheriff and he worked the show undercover on contract with Tanner.

The last time I attended the show (3 years ago), I saw at least a dozen uniformed law enforcement with sidearms. I don't remember if they were Denver or Adams County or whatever.

I never stated or implied "they were watching everything going on". I know that is not the case.. I know they are there mostly for show.

My point is, or was, that the show organizers do take security seriously, and they take more than reasonable actions to provide for the safety of the attendees and vendors.

The people doing the enforcing these days are private security. Yeah, there are a few cops. But they really don't DO anything. All of them in uniform.

Undercover PRIVATE SECURITY? WAHAHAHAHA! You are saying the the TANNER GUN SHOW PEOPLE, the ones who were struggling to get show attendance up, are PAYING PEOPLE to go undercover? WHY? To arrest vendors? Yeah, that'll keep the show open. OH, WAIT, THEY WILL ARREST SHOW GOERS. The ones who PAY to come in? THAT'S who they are going to arrest? You apparently never talked to the show promoters who are BEGGING vendors to come in and set up MORE tables?

Please. This is strictly a business. They provide enough security to make it look good. All the doors that will open have a security by them. MOST are guys my age or older. Yes, there are a few uniformed cops, but not many.

And almost all of the customers are just like ALL the other customers that traipse past each table, looking somewhat glassy eyed at all the cool stuff they could own, if they just won the LOTTO.

No offense, P, but this IS my backyard AND my AOE. These days I just sell military surplus, not firearms. BUT I still attend the show occasionally to catch up with three or four of the folks who have been there forever. They keep me informed.

Prices are up. Though not as high as last year. Black rifle sales have slowed, though have not dried up completely yet. Ammo sales appears to STILL be brisk, though again, the price has dropped. And people aren't rolling out with five or six cases. More likely to be two, MAYBE three cases if they got a screaming good deal.

I missed this show. Just couldn't get motivated. Obviously I didn't miss anything.

Was it a .50 rifle round? :)
